From the Projo today:
Three Rhode Island college presidents have signed on to a petition supporting a ban on military-style semi-automatic assault weapons.
The petition, signed by 350 of the nation’s 4,150 college presidents and unveiled at a news conference in Washington featuring Education Secretary Arne Duncan, has been signed by Jane Gerety of Salve Regina University, Donald Farish of Roger Williams University and John Maeda of the Rhode Island School of Design.
The petition also supports a ban on high-capacity ammunition magazines, the end of the “gun-show loophole” that allows people to buy guns without a criminal background check, and requires consumer safety standards, such as safety locks, on all guns.
The petition is being circulated by College Presidents for Gun Safety.
