Lies, Stupidity, and Connecticut

Well, the world is changing quickly for our friends in Connecticut. A bill that seems sure to pass there this week will make Connecticut perhaps the harshest state in the union for gun control.

Here’s what the bill will do.

High Capacity Magazine Ban

It will ban the sale of high capacity magazines, and forces registration of existing magazines before January 1, 2014. (If you’re dumb enough to register your mags, you can expect them to be taken away shortly thereafter). You’ll only be allowed to use them in your home or at the range (just the kind of law a crazed maniac usually follows, right?).

Assault Weapons

If you are found to own any of the many firearms that will now be classified as “assault weapons,” you will be put in jail for, at minimum, a year unless you can prove you owned them prior to July 1, 2013. If you can prove ownership prior to that date, you’ll “only” be charged with a misdemeanor.

Background Checks

Every sale of a firearm will now be required to have an accompanying background check. The real kicker is, so will sales of ammunition and magazines!

Dangerous Weapons Offenders List

In CT, henceforth, a person convicted of a gun crime will be registered much like a sex offender. (I’m not sticking up for criminals, once you blow it, you blow it, don’t be a criminal).

Mental Illness

Today if you’re a committed patient, you can’t buy a gun for a year. When this gun control bill finally passes in CT, you’ll have to wait five years.

That’s the view from 30,000 feet of this law about to be passed in CT, our neighbor. It is in many ways worse than what was passed in NY, and is much worse than what was passed in Colorado. Given our proximity, you can bet our politicians will be using it as a model for their own gun control dream schemes.

Out giving air cover to this madness in Connecticut is none other than the President of the United States, Barack Obama—he who is sworn to defend our constitution. Instead of fighting for our rights, the president is using ridiculously old, and poorly collected statistics to attempt to scare Americans into giving up their second amendment rights without much of a fight. The president is telling Americans that 40% of firearm transactions are completed outside the background check system. That stat is from a survey published in 1997, and taken in 1994. The survey was of only 251 people. If you can’t see how ridiculous it is that the president is using this “data” to make his point in 2013, even the Washington Post has given him three Pinocchios on its fact check of the claim. (Three Pinocchios means he’s lying, in case you didn’t get that).

Now to the fun (scary?) part of the post. In a town hall meeting, Congresswoman Diana DeGette told the audience this about the high capacity magazines she wants to ban:

“I will tell you these are ammunition, they’re bullets, so the people who have those now they’re going to shoot them, so if you ban them in the future, the number of these high capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time because the bullets will have been shot and there won’t be any more available.”

Did you get that? DeGette believes that high capacity magazines are only to be used once, like condoms or ketchup packets. So in her mind, once we stop making them, eventually they’ll just fade away.

As you all know of course, magazines can be reused time and time again. They will eventually fail, but it could be decades in the future, or thousands of rounds later.

That bit of “intelligence” ranks right up there with this doozy.

These are the people running this country. No wonder we’re in such trouble!
